Transgender Program
|
For more information, consultation or to schedule a gender specific assessment, please call 310-286-1300.
Our services focus on psycho-education, healthy identity development and adjustment, stigma, shame, healthy sexuality, intimacy and societal integration. We provide psychotherapeutic support and indicated recommendations for hormone-replacement therapy and sex re-assignment surgery. We also offer support and services for the partners and family members of those with gender identity or gender-related concerns. Our program adheres to the standards of care as set forth by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health's Standards of Care.
Services
Gender-Specific Assessment
ISH provides comprehensive gender-specific assessment which covers mental health, social adjustment, sexuality, and personality assessment and may include psychological testing when indicated. Our assessment emphasizes the spectrum of transgender concerns from paraphilias to gender identity.
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual therapy is used to explore specific gender-related concerns and establish a working relationship with a therapist. This may or may not include services that foster movement towards established goals, such as hormone-replacement and sex-reassignment surgery.
Group Psychotherapy
ISH offers a weekly transgender psychotherapy group for transgendered or gender-variant individuals. The group offers psycho-education, support and gender-related psychotherapy in a safe and confidential context.
